Leveraging our psychiatric disorder animal model expertise, we can develop models of other anxiety disorders to research diagnostics and treatments. Many psychiatric disorders are precipitated by chronic stress. While our PTSD model uses a severe, acute stressor, we may also employ a model that contains a mild, chronic stressor. The resulting behavioral dysregulation can be a proxy to study generalized anxiety disorder or major depressive disorder. Moreover, we can differentially diagnose disorders stemming from chronic versus acute stress.
